What you play
Everything you play is turned into sound inside your browser. Recordings you make are kept in the page while it is open; when you download a MIDI or audio file, the browser creates it on your device. None of it is sent to this website.
A share link contains the notes of your recording inside the link itself, after the # sign. Browsers do not send that part of a link to a web server, so the recording is not stored or seen by us; anyone you give the link to can play it.
MIDI keyboards
If you press "Connect MIDI keyboard", your browser may ask for permission to use MIDI devices. The notes from your keyboard are used only to play sound on the page.
Stored in your browser
The site remembers three preferences in your browser's local storage — the key-label style, the key size, and whether song pages open on sheet music or letter notes — so they are the same next time. The grand piano recordings are kept in the browser's cache. You can remove both by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
What the site records
The site does not use cookies, advertising identifiers or third-party analytics or advertising scripts.
When a page is requested, our server records a count with: the page address, the domain of the website that linked to it (if your browser shares one), the country (worked out by our hosting provider from your connection; the IP address itself is not stored in these counts), whether the device is a phone, tablet or computer, and whether the request looks automated.
The page also sends a few anonymous feature counts: switching the sound, connecting a MIDI keyboard, starting and stopping a recording (with the number of notes), downloading a file (with its type), creating a share link (with its length), and using the chord finder, scales and song modes (with the chord, scale or song chosen). These counts never include what you played.
They are kept in Cloudflare Workers Analytics Engine for about three months and used only to see which features are used and to find problems.
Hosting
The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes every request (including your IP address) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Email, children, changes
If you email us, your address and message are used only to reply. The site is a general-purpose tool that collects no personal information from anyone, and it is not directed at children under 13. If anything changes what is recorded — such as advertising — this page will be updated before that change goes live.
